editApage.org is an open source product that is typically used as a web service. It is easy for developers and website owners to use editApage.org as a service and never bother “installing” or “customizing” the application at all. In this way, editApage is more similar to SlashDot.org than it is Drupal or Mambo. We offer the source for many reasons, including:
- Real world quality assurance, testing, and debugging our organization simply doesn’t have the time to provide for a free service.
- Confidence as a web developer that you can create your own copy of editApage.org and provide your clients the tools they need to manage their small sites, regardless of changes to editApage.org the site, or Concrete CMS the development company.
What we’re happy to have you do as a smart cookie:
- Download it, install it in your dev environment, break your copy, fix your copy, join the development team, and make editApage.org the best it can be.
- Download it, install it on your live environment, call it something else, open it up to your clients, and even charge them for usage of your copy as part of your crafty hosting deals or service offerings
You CAN’T sell the code. You CAN sell usage of the code.
- If you make a derivative (customize the code in some way), you MUST make the new code publicly available at no charge. We’d strongly encourage you to join the development team at that point, maybe someone’s already done the improvement you’re thinking about.
- You CAN’T claim ownership of the new code, nor can you add your marketing materials to a release, create an acknowledgement clause, or endorse the code with out prior written permission.
- You MUST assign copyright and ownership of any code you develop to Concrete CMS. (This is a good thing, read more about copyright and open source.)
